Gar Samuelson

Gar Samuelson (1961-1998) was an American drummer best known for his work with the thrash metal band Megadeth. Born in 1961 in a suburb of New York City, Samuelson's musical career took off when he joined Megadeth in 1984, contributing to their seminal debut album, *Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good!* (1985) and the critically acclaimed *Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?* (1986). His innovative drumming style, characterized by complex rhythms and rapid-fire beats, was integral to the band’s aggressive sound and helped define the thrash metal genre. Samuelson's playing combined elements of jazz and heavy metal, showcasing technical proficiency and creativity. After leaving Megadeth in 1987, he played with several other bands, including the group The New Black and later contributed to projects in various capacities. Despite his relatively brief career, Samuelson's influence on metal drumming is significant, paving the way for future drummers in the genre. He remains a respected figure among metal enthusiasts, and his work with Megadeth continues to be celebrated for its impact on the evolution of thrash metal. Samuelson passed away in 1998 due to complications related to liver disease.
